Main Rubric
The "Main Rubric" or root rubric is the top of the site's navigation tree. It is set by rubrics administrators.
So the site's homepage is the Main Rubric. If it doesn't have a content article, the default homepage only contains a list of newly created or recently updated objects (the list of the main rubric's members is not displayed).
The site map displays the whole site's tree as a list. [1]
The site's navigation may only display parts of the site map tree (only two levels deep, or only rubrics, etc). This depends on the site's template.
[1] If this link doesn't work, either the siteMap page has been removed, or the link points to the root of the domain instead of the root of the site. Try adding /siteMap to the URL of the site's homepage.
